We picked up Mustache Baby on a whim. What a great book! I mentioned that it would be fun if there were a sequel that built upon Baby Billy's new friend that shows up at the end of the book. Hopped on to Amazon and saw that there was!! Ordered this book right away, and we weren't disappointed! My preschoolers love both books in the series and ask to have them read aloud frequently. Great word play, and an introduction to choices and consequences that is easy for kids to acknowledge and understand. The illustrations are awesome!

I love this book!! It's completely adorable!! And, both my younger and my older kids were laughing at it. I was laughing at it. The illustrations are so funny, and it's just cuteness. I already gave a copy to a cousin for his son along with the first book, Mustache Baby. It's adorable and sweet.

Still my son's favorite book after more than 6 months of daily reading it at least a few times a day. He keeps ripping the pages though so this is my second copy in six months and we need to buy a new one pretty soon as well. Definitely need this in a board book as the durability of paper does not last obviously. Hopefully it comes out soon but definitely love this book it is so cute!

My kids (ages 3-6) love the mustache baby books. I bought them bc the kids were constantly checking them out from the library. The stories carry with them an awesome message about bad behavior days (we all have them, you're loved regardless) and choosing friendship over rivalry.The picture is of the bookshelf my kids can reach...they're supposed to books away every morning and then I sort them when it gets full. They get the Mustache baby books out weekly.

Cutest books!!! Had Mustache Baby and wanted more books to read that entertain Mom and Dad too! Funny and great storyline! Will order more!

Kids love this book and the original. Its a favorite bedtime story and I don't mind reading it again and again. There are "misspellings" for character integrity that may be bothersome for those trying to use this for early readers.

So cute! If you love the original book, moustache baby, then you'll love this too. Moustache baby is one of my 4 year olds favorite books and I have no doubt then when I give this to him for Christmas he's going to love it.

A great follow up/sequel to the original Mustache Baby baby! The perils of friendship and how to work through problems with a twist!

Ever wonder what it's like to grow up in a little village in Kenya? Kelly Cunnane, a former Peace Corps volunteer in that country, tells the charming story of a little boy who is supposed to be tending his grandfather's cows when... well, there are so many other interesting things to do! You'll learn a little Swahili following him on his adventures ("Jambo!") and find out what happens when the cows come home. The colorful illustrations by Ana Juan are perfect for the story. I would definitely recommend this as a fun way to broaden a child's horizons.

I love this book. When I taught elementary school, I would read this to my students. I would also share with them about my trip to Kenya so as to open their minds to those less fortunate. This is one of my favorite books. Next to "There's a Monster at the End of the Book" by Grover.

The illustrations are beautiful, full of action and joy! A realistic peak into a Kenyan child's day. The story line is fun and comes with a moral lessons about sharing, kindness, forgiveness and unity. My 19 month old who can't sit still for many of her stories loves reading this book :) so happy I stumbled upon it!

This book is well done. It is an inspiring story that must be told. It is about the Warsaw Jewish ghetto in World War 2 . It is an account of human suffering. Irene Sendler, a young Polish girl, organizes her friends into a network that is responsible for saving the lives of 2500 Jewish children.The reader is spared nothing, there is inhumane and brutal treatment by the Nazi. Irene is unbelievably brave, and a wise and excellent organizer. The Germans wanted to eradicate the city of Warsaw, and they almost did it. The Jewish children were an important target for the Naizi.Irene smuggled them out of the ghetto in many ingenious ways. There are numerous names, but her operation needed all of these people. Mazzeowrites well and has handled the story perfectly.

This truly is an extraordinary book about an extraordinary woman. I couldn't put it down. Reasonable women don't make history, they say, and certainly Irena Sendler was not a "reasonable woman". She was a zealot, driven by a strong moral compass, a deep sense of purpose, and unbelievable courage to put an indelible footprint on the meaning of humanity amidst unbelievable inhumanity. But what particularly sets her apart, I think, was her unique ability to translate these traits into action - to attract others to the cause and to organize their efforts toward a common goal, always under intense stress and just one small misstep from disaster. No question she was totally devoted to the cause, often at the expense of other facets of her life. She was no role model for work-life balance. But through her efforts the lives of some 2,500 children were saved. Surely that's balance of another sort.Anyway, Sendler's is a gripping story and Tilar Mazzeo, as readers of her previous books know, is a gripping story-teller. She does what so many scholars and teachers of history fail to do - bring the events and characters of her story to life. She is an indefatigable researcher who has a fine eye for details, but couples this with a deft narrative style that keeps things moving along at a good clip. Fair warning, though; this is not an easy story to be drawn into - the milieu is so unbelievably horrible and gruesome - and good does not always triumph over evil. But there are enough times when it does to restore one's faith in human nature and provide a ray of hope for the future.So thanks, Tilar. You've hit another home run..

This is a newly written book about Irena Sendler, the Polish Catholic social worker who saved over 2500 Jewish children during the Holocaust.She smuggled them out, one by one, in most cases, from the Warsaw Ghetto, in which thousands of Polish Jews were crammed, starving, likely to be shot at any time, or forced to board trains for extermination camps. (Though for most of the time no one knew for sure the destination of the trains.....later rumors began to spread, but people still found it hard to believe....).Irena Sendler worked with many others, but was the moral and physical leader of her group.....she took daily risks, going into the Ghetto and then talking Jewish families into giving up their children to her, based on just the hope that they would safer with her organization than left with their families. (In most cases, the children were hidden in convents and among sympathetic Polish families, who all knew they risked their lives and their family's lives by taking in Jewish children).Irena Sendler wanted to try to reunite these children with their families after the war....therefore she hid each child's name in a glass jar, buried in a friend's garden......(That is why the older book about her is called "Life in a Jar".....it is also an excellent book....and was instrumental in leading to Sendler being nominated for a Nobel prize.....)Of course, almost all the families of these children did not survive the war......So few people really cared to know what was going on in those years......only a few risked it all to try to save some people......she was one, and was, sadly, forgotten by history until very recently.....I'm glad she is now being recognized for her deeds......

If on the other hand, you collaborated with the Germans, the resistance would find you and put a bullet in you. If you tried to hide out, roving bands of self-appointed bounty-hunters would rat you out to either the Gestapo or the resistance, receiving no more than a loaf of stale bread or a sack of rotten potatoes in exchange for your life. If you managed to avoid all of the above, then you were free to die of starvation, cold exposure, one of many epidemics of typhus, or simple despair. In the midst of all this stood a band of true heroes, risking all to oppose tyranny and fascism, putting their lives on the line every day to save lives of the innocent. About the Author

Vice Admiral James Stockdale, a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution, served in the navy from 1947 to 1979, beginning as a test pilot and instructor at Patuxent River, Maryland, and spending two years as a graduate student at Stanford University. He became a fighter pilot and was shot down on his second combat tour over North Vietnam, becoming a prisoner of war for eight years, four in solitary confinement. The highest-ranking naval officer held during the Vietnam War, he was tortured fifteen times and put in leg irons for two years. His books include Thoughts of a Philosophical Fighter Pilot (1995, Hoover Institution Press) and In Love and War (second revised and updated edition, 1990, U.S. Naval Institute Press), coauthored with his wife, Sybil. In early 1987, a dramatic presentation of In Love and War was viewed by more than 45 million viewers on NBC television.

Thoughts of a Philosophical Fighter Pilot offers strength and resilience when (not if) we too are tried in the fire and must confront feelings that threaten to distroy us.

The viewpoint and descriptions of what it takes to walk thru the fire, survive and win against 7/8years of daily torture, oppression, interrogation, isolation. Ultimately it came down to holding out for the guys you're in with so you can look them in the face...not compromising one's principals and the prisons code. A man may scream or do some things he may not hope to, but then there are things a man of principal can hold out and never be forced to do even wiith the threat of death or worse. There are things one can control - ones code, and interpretation and things one cannot. The true stoics focus on the internal desires vs external wants. My biggest take away was never compromise your principals for any amount of luxury or relief as that is what kills mens souls.

I do not waste my time reviewing marginal books. I thought long and hard before writing this review. It is presumptuous to comment on the life and thoughts of this man. But it is also compelling to encourage its readership by the broadest possible audience....especially our young people. It is especially relevant today, circa early 2008, as America decides on a President.This is perhaps the most intellectually and emotionally charged book I have read. And yet Admiral Stockdale was a quiet, humble man. As previous reviewers have commented, there is a wealth of material: ethics, history, drama...but I focus on the introspection he demands of America, especially in choosing leaders that send our young men and women into harms was...and, at times, into 7 and-a-half years of constant torture.Do not presume to think you know the substance of this book. I assure you, you will be proven wrong. The book is brutal. Yes, it does describe the torture and underground resistance - the ordeal and triumph American POWs. And that is more than useful for several generations of Americans who came to maturity when we, as a Nation, preferred to ignore a government's duplicity and, in many instances, stupidity in the conduct of war and national affairs.The book is critical of the government. What? A Vice Admiral and holder of the Medal of Honor being critical of the government? Damn right! So pay attention. This is not a criticism based on emotion or a "why didn't you help me" cry. It's a demand...nothing less...that elected officials exhibit character. Character is unambiguous. You want an example...it is simple: It is not what you believe in. It is how you act.On page 30, Stockdale recounts a conversation as I quote: "I think that in an important way, the television news industry is doing the whole country a continuing disservice. We constantly reinforce a bad idea that we helped invent - the idea that the key to being a good citizen, a discerning voter, is to know where all the candidates stand on all the issues. The issues are given center stage and the politician is cast as their suitor. We have made the expression `so much for philosophy, lets get down to issues' a maxim of conventional wisdom. And at news time every evening, all networks project scenes of harassed men and women being nailed down by stubborn interviewers who insist on quick answers on where their victims stand on gun control, abortion, and so on......"...what's important is not the person's current views on transient issues, but his character."And this, from Lester Crystal, then the President of NBC News!Character. How does a man or woman of character act? They do not quibble. They do not lie. They do not debate "What 'is' is?"On many levels, Stockdale defines the term.

An incredible real life story of a man's survival in the Hanoi Hilton and how he lead all the prisoners in their quest for living through the most horrible and brutal captivity. The philosophy of Epictetus played a central role in enabling Adm. Stockdale and his fellow POW's to endure years and years of extreme cruelty.

This book is essentially a collection of speeches Admiral Stockdale gave during the 80s and 90s. These speeches merely scratch the surface of a man whose iron will and leadership ability in the face of seemingly impossible circumstances have set the bar high. He reveals how a chance encounter with a professor in the philosophy depart at Stanford helped set the direction for the rest of his life. Philosophy notwithstanding, Stockdale's determination and absolute certainty that he knew what to do and why it had to be done reveal a force of will seldom seen among those who assume leadership roles today.This book is an excellent introduction to the life of a man who defined leadership not with words, but with deeds. The current crop of politicians and so-called cultural leaders should be required to read this volume, and the rest of us should read it so we can tell the difference between a real leader and a wordy fake whose only motivation is "game theory".

I reviewed in GoodReads as well, but for the military professional, or any person seeking to improve their personal ethical and leadership habits, I strongly recommend. Probably better absorbed by a mid-grade professional who has already developed some experience as a leader and manager, Stockdale's essay length pieces will provide further illumination and clarity. Certainly for myself, I have internally grown, and find much to appreciate in the Stoic philosophy that Stockdale advocates.

4-stars not for content!This appears to have chapters left out of an initial printing, which I of course like. The 4 stars is not for content, but for the printing/binding method. This is a horribly cheap way to bind: a layer of glue for the pages 'on edge'. Normally, the pages are grouped into what are oddly called "signatures", and each piece of paper is 4 'pages', or 'sides', just folded in 1/2 (think newspaper 'pages').These packets are glued (or sewn in nicer books) and then attached to the 'backing', or 'backing material' so all the signatures line up. A cheaper alternative is to simply print individual sheets with adjacent pages on them, and simply glue to the edges to the binding-this is what was done here.You may not care NOW, but you will care later. Why? Because each individual page will eventually disconnect from it's binging as it ages, or is used. For example, if you open up to a page and press on the binding material to force the page open, if you press hard, or often, enough, that page will pop out. I'm not talking about the paper tearing or anything like that; I'm talking about the sheet (with 2 pages printed on it) popping out intact.The only decent temporary fix is to tape it in, but now you've added twice the normal stress to the page(s) you taped it to. It will, with regular use, become a big mess.

A classic that every card magician should have in their library.

I give this one five stars for the sheer wealth of knowledge it contains! I love how there are more tricks in it than I can find almost anywhere, and the descriptions of how to do the tricks are very straightforward. Some have said it's lack of pictures makes it difficult to learn from, but I didn't find it a problem given the simplicity and in-depth style of the wording. You can pick up a deck and perform some of these very quickly, while others you will have to work a few days on. Regardless, I believe this to be an indispensable gem of a card trick book and will not part with mine...

More dense than the beginner's books out there, but highly detailed and comprehensive. An excellent overview of the arsenal of sleights every magician should master.

there is no images to show what it means, all the tricks are in word form so you have to think of how to get it done on your own and it is not that descriptive on how to do it... but if you are looking for a lot of tricks and can do them with verbal information only and no showing how to... then this is the book for you...that is all

Lots and lots of old school card tricks. Some good stuff and some not. Some that have potential but the patter and presentation around the methods need to be altered and updated.

I purchased this for a 10 year old who loves magic but found we have to read the tricks ourselves then teach him to do them. This book is loaded with tricks!
